Hi, my name is Mike Walmsley, and I own and manage Phoenix Contracting Ltd (formerly known as Walmsley Contracting Ltd).

The history of our construction company

Of all the thousands and thousands of tonnes of material Walmsley Contracting (now called Phoenix Contracting) removed as part of its contract to demolish the buildings and embankments at Nelson Park, just a single truck load ended up in Hawke's Bay 's Omaranui landfill. For everything else, the company found an outlet for reuse.

Clean, green, recycle, sustainability ... all today's buzzwords, were part of everyday business at Walmsley long before they became fashionable.

They've been key to the philosophy of owner Mike Walmsley as he's taken the company from the owner-operated farm contracting business it began as 27 years ago, to become one of Hawke's Bay's largest contracting and demolition specialists.

Environmentally friendly contractors

Recycling is an integral factor in the sustainability of natural resources and is a major part of the business.

The company's recycling program includes:

Salvage, processing and retailing of demolition materials
Crushing, screening and selling of recycled concrete
Screening of Lawnsoils for resale

We pride ourselves in having the skills and resources to carry out large contracts as well as being continually requested to work with and alongside as subcontractors, to a number of large construction companies and builders.

Health and safety practices

Phoenix Contracting Ltd is committed to the promotion of safe working practices and is a member of Site Safe and undergoes relevant safety training.

Safety meetings are held on a regular monthly basis where any problems and/or safety aspects can be addressed along with other normal business.
